Election Thoughts

With the November election less than 6 weeks away, and with presidential polls running neck and neck, I once again find myself aghast that (at least) half the American electorate will willingly vote for candidates who support abortion, the legal destruction of 4000 human lives every day. It is heartbreaking and incomprehensible, and if I dwell on it, I feel threatened by feelings of despair.
Despair is not the answer. Rage is not the answer. Giving up is not the answer. Yes, American society is rotting.
As Catholics, we have to remember that we are members of the mystical body of Christ. As such, we are a society within the society. And as the catechism says, our family is a little church within the Church, and mom and dad are priests of this little church. We have the power and the responsibility to keep the rot of the secular society out of our families, out of our parishes, and out of our Church. Engage with the world, yes. Try to change the world, yes. But always know you have a safe place of refuge, and that place is your home and your church.
