The Importance of the Church's Teaching on Birth Control

I found this http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0805600.htm to be dismaying. If I read it correctly, this bishop is saying we need to water down the Church's teaching on birth control to appeal better to married couples. What he apparantly does not understand is that adhering to that teaching strenghtens marriages. I know it has ours. I pray that the Church continues to resist such efforts at "modernization".
