Culture Wars - The Abuse Scandal as a Means of Attacking and Harrassing the Church

At first glance, this http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,473844,00.html looks like a Bishop trying to silence his critics. But read further. It becomes obvious that the person in question is using the scandals as an excuse to harrass and persecute the Church and this Bishop in particular.

Some priests and bishops committed and/or covered up abuses. That is not in dispute. But the Church has, in the end, handled its responsibilities appropriately, to the point where some dioces have been forced into banckruptcy due to civil settlements. Further harrassment of this nature is opportunistic and amounts to hate-motivated persecution of the Church.

The culture war takes many forms. We cannot sit by passively on any front, not even from a collective sense of guilt about past wrongs.
